A Warm Welcome to Fiji: Where to Holiday in Winter

Published 12th Aug 2022

When suffering through the colder months here in Australia, we know a warm welcome in Fiji can be difficult to resist. The seasonal depression that comes with miserable mornings and cold weather can be easily fixed by a short trip to the South Pacific. During winter, Fiji’s average temperature hovers between 25-30 degrees - the perfect temperature to relax on the beach. Plus, as winter falls neatly in Fiji’s dry season, you can trust that you and your group won’t be rained out. Our team at Spacifica Travel believe that winter is one of the best times to visit Fiji, and here is why.

What to do during winter in Fiji

Hiking

Fiji’s cooler season is a great time to take part in a range of outdoor activities and hikes as the weather will ensure you don’t wear yourself out. The Viti Levu hike is one of Fiji’s best multi-day hikes and takes three to four days to complete. It is considered moderate to hard, as the terrain varies a lot - but it is full of beautiful views and adventure. If you really want to push yourself, Mount Tomanini is a five-hour hike that takes you straight up to one of Fiji’s highest peaks. Doing this at the height of summer would be very exhausting and hot, so winter is perfect.

Diving and Snorkelling

June to October is when you will find the best visibility for diving and snorkelling in Fiji’s coral reefs. While the water is a little colder than it would be in the summer - between 24 to 27 degrees Celsius - it is still very temperate. As the weather is dryer and there is less swell, the waters are easier to traverse. Beqa Lagoon is a great place to get up close and personal with the local sea life and see some beautiful coral.

Where to stay in Fiji during winter

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort

The Outrigger Fiji is the perfect option for families seeking their winter escape. The Outrigger has a huge range of accommodation for different group sizes- everything from regular rooms to bures. The resort also features a huge range of dining options and amenities like pools, swim up bars, and a day spa.

Treasure Island Fiji

Treasure Island Fiji will take the guesswork out of your winter Fiji holiday and make it very easy for you to have a good time. The resort is located on one of the islands closer to the marina, which ensures minimal travelling and more time to soak up the sun by the pool.  There is also a great range of restaurants and bars on the island, plus amazing bures that will ensure privacy and luxury for the whole group.

Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa

The Intercontinental Fiji is the best place to be if you want a nice balance of relaxation and adventure. From the warm welcome when you arrive in Fiji to the minute you leave, you will feel as though you are fully taken care of. The resort is home to a state of the art 18 hole golf course. We strongly recommend making the most of the cooler weather while on the green under the sun. Just be sure to wear sunscreen! As well as this, the Spa Intercontinental is the best place to be if you are wanting to shake the winter blues.
