Unique Fijian Holiday Experiences

Published 8th May 2018

Fiji holidays are more than just a trip to paradise; they are a journey of discovery filled with extraordinary moments. With our exclusive Fiji holiday packages, we promise unique experiences that go beyond the postcard-perfect beaches. Fiji travel offers an all-access pass to a vibrant tapestry of cultures, awe-inspiring landscapes, and an endless list of thrilling activities. If you're considering travel to Fiji and yearn for something off the beaten path, you've come to the right place. In this article, we dive into some of Fiji's most unique holiday experiences that are sure to transform your vacation into an unforgettable adventure.

Unique Experiences in Fiji

There’s no doubt Fiji is one of Australia’s favourite international holiday destinations due to its proximity and short flight time, affordable luxury and the serene landscape that it has to offer. And while the main island of Denarau is a great place to base yourself, especially for first-time visitors, what many people don’t realise is that there is so much more to see and do in outer areas and islands of Fiji.

The unforgettable cultural experiences on offer in Fiji’s lesser known regions, each with their own intricacies that make them unique, will amaze and inspire you. It’s time to get off the beaten track and explore all that Fiji has to offer, to craft unforgettable memories, learn more about Fiji’s rich culture and history, and maybe even learn something about yourself along the way.

Reef Golf:

Have a quick game of reef golf at the Toberua Island Resort. Created in 1985 by famous Australian artist, Ken Done, the nine-hole course on Toberua Island is only playable at low tide, and playing the field is challenging, enjoyable and like nothing you’ve played before.

Navua River Falls and White River Rafting:

For those with a sense of adventure and a love of the extreme, it’s worth a trip to the Navua River to experience the ultimate in white river rafting. A three-hour trip from the international gateway Nadi, this protected and pristine river boasts close to 50 waterfalls to discover, and many obstacles to dodge along its winding, narrow banks as you swiftly pass beneath the 30-metre high gorges above.

Captain Cook Cruises:

A great way to explore Fiji is to see it on a cruise. Perfect for the time-conscious and those who don’t want to deal with the logistics of booking multiple hotels, Captain Cook Cruises offers a variety of itineraries. A cruise will allow you to see the beautiful landscapes of many of the outer islands, stopping along the way for snorkelling, paddle boarding and even glass bottom boat exploration. Captain Cook Cruises include all meals and a selection of activities including guided island, school, and village tours. Day trip options are available for those with less time to spare.

“Flavours of Fiji” Cooking Class:

The “Flavours of Fiji” Cooking class starts off with a guided market tour, where you can blend in with locals as they purchase their produce, all farmed fresh by locals. Following this, you’ll get to learn the intricacies of Fijian and Indo-Fijian cuisine in an intimate class hosted in a custom-designed air-conditioned room.

Explore the Nausori Highlands:

You’ll forget that you’re even on an island when you explore the beautiful Nausori Highlands in central Fiji. With peaks over 1000m tall, join a guided tour or hire a rental 4x4 to experience the stunning drive up to soak in the landscape. As the Nausori Highlands are home to some of the most remote, and thus the most traditional villages in Fiji, we do recommend a guide who will be able to show you around without disturbing the peace.

Volunteer with Vinaka Fiji:

For those of you wanting to make a difference, enjoy sustainable tourism and love to positively impact the countries they visit, this will be one of the most rewarding experiences on your trip. Despite being a successful and luxurious tourism hub, many Fijians live without basic amenities that we take for granted at home.

You’ll participate in helping villagers in the Yasawa Islands by engaging in:

  • Teacher Assistance and Education
  • Sustainable Resource Management
  • Environmental Initiatives
  • Marine Research and Conservation

All Vinaka Fiji volunteer packages run from a Saturday morning through to the following Saturday morning and are a total of 7 nights in duration including five days volunteer work, accommodation and meals. We encourage anyone in the position to make a difference for Fijian villagers to help wherever they can. The rewarding experience of helping and living a basic island life will beat any holiday you’ve had to date.
