Family holidays in Samoa

Published 13 Dec 2022

Samoa is the perfect destination for a family holiday. With family and connection at the heart of their culture, Samoan’s are so welcoming to everyone that comes to visit. The country offers a diverse mix of beautiful beaches, stunning scenery and culture to broaden your kids’ minds and they will have something to tell all their friends when they get home. We have put together a list of family friendly properties and attractions to help you plan your trip.

Family Friendly Resorts

Taumeasina Island Resort - is a private island set on 14 acres and encompasses lush tropical gardens, two white sand beaches and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, plus a natural lagoon only 45 minutes from the airport. The resort has both hotel style accommodation but also 2 and 3 bedroom self-contained villas. With its first-class dining and bar options as well as a host of sports and water activities it is a great option for families.

Coconuts Beach Club Resort and Spa – Normally considered a couples resort this property does offer the perfect flop and drop vacation for everyone in one spot. Kids will love Culture Day on Saturday, Fiafia nights, Sunday and Thursday barbecues and amazing snorkelling.

Return to Paradise – This resort is proudly 100% Samoan owned and operated – every dollar you spend at the resort is creating meaningful jobs and income for Samoa and Samoans. When you come to Return to Paradise, you are being hosted by the very families who have owned and cared for this land for over a thousand years. They have a great range of room categories, so there is something to suit your family, no matter the size.

Must See Kids Attractions/Activities

Samoa Cultural Village – understanding and learning about different cultures is one important reason to travel. The Samoa Culture Village in Apia is the perfect place for this. The whole family can observe tapa making, traditional tattooing, carving cultural artefacts or Umu preparation (earth oven) in an interactive environment.

Fiafia Nights – Are a must experience in Samoa. Most hotels will offer their own interpretation of a Fiafia Night. Watch the traditional dancing performed that has been around for more that 3000 years and eat from a buffet feast with many of the dishes cooked in an Umu - or earth oven - using hot volcanic rocks.

Take a bus - No family should miss riding a local bus while in Samoa. These beautifully colourful vehicles often run on island time but are a great way to get around and chat with locals.

Beaches, waterfalls and blow holes – There are endless beaches, waterfall and blow holes scattered around the island to get out and experience.
