One of the first places you should visit during your holiday on Norfolk Island is Mount Pitt. Although not quite the highest point on the island (that title belongs to the nearby Mount Bates), Mt Pitt still offers stellar 360 degrees views that showcase everything that makes Norfolk Island so breathtaking.

Hundred Acre Reserve is a protected area of natural forest that you and your travelling party can walk through to reach the south-west coast. Swinging around to the south side of Norfolk Island, you can easily pass away an afternoon on Emily Bay, which is renowned for being one of the most pristine beaches in the South Pacific.

• Wedge-tailed shearwater - nicknamed “ghost birds” by locals, these sea birds come in with the tide after sunset and call out with their moaning cries long into the night.

• Norfolk Island morepork owl - another species of birdlife that has come back from the brink of extinction, keep an ear out for this bird’s famous “more-poooork” call.

• Norfolk robin - keep watch for the male Norfolk robin, which has a striking red breast, black back, and white head.

In terms of plant species, the Norfolk Pine tree is another famous symbol of the island. These towering trees grow all around the island, so you won’t be able to miss them.

Seasonal Changes on Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island doesn’t go through too much natural change from season to season, meaning there isn’t a bad time of the year to visit. Flowers are more colourful in Spring and Summer, and some bird species only visit the island during certain times of the year.

The only other seasonal change worth considering is the difference in temperature. With a mild climate that can drop down to 13 degrees celsius in winter and rise to 25 degrees in summer, the weather is generally quite pleasant no matter when you visit Norfolk Island.
