Fiji’s Best Water Sport Spots

Published 13th Mar 2018

or thrill-seekers and water sport enthusiasts, our Fiji holiday packages offer a world of adventure. Fiji holidays aren't just about unwinding on sun-kissed beaches, they're also a chance to dive into an exhilarating array of water sports. From the azure depths of world-class diving sites to the perfect waves for surfing, Fiji travel unveils a playground for every water sport aficionado. If you're planning to travel to Fiji and are eager to make a splash, you're in for a treat. Diving, surfing, fishing, rafting, snorkelling, kayaking – it doesn’t matter what water sport you’re into, Fiji is home to some of the best experiences both above and below the water. In our latest blog, we’re giving away all of Fiji’s best-kept water sport spots – they may take a little bit more effort to get to, but the smaller crowds and flourishing marine life make it all worth it!

Lesser-Known Water Sport Spots:

Diving in Fiji:

The Jean-Michael Cousteau Resort overlooks Savusavu Bay in Northern Fiji and is ideally located for diving enthusiasts. It is surrounded by a marine sanctuary and has excellent dive facilities as well as a resident marine biologist. The resort also has all-inclusive dive packages available which include multiple diving sessions.

Surfing in Fiji:

Fiji is home to some of the best surf breaks in the world, including the infamous Cloudbreak for more experienced surfers. Cloudbreak is located offshore near the Mamanuca Islands and is known for being surfable on all tides. Our recommended accommodation for anyone looking to surf Cloudbreak is Plantation Island Resort as this amazing left hand break is accessible by boat only and Plantation have daily trips out (as well as six other great surfing spots).

Fishing in Fiji:

There are so many great fishing spots to choose from in Fiji, but one of our top recommendations is The Sun Coast, where you’ll find great sport and game fishing. The surrounding waters are home to GT’s, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Blue Bar Parrot, Coral Trout, Mangrove Jack and more, making them the perfect mecca for fishing enthusiasts of any skill level. For accommodation, we recommend Volivoli Beach Resort, as they are not only located on the northernmost tip of Viti Levu, but they also have their own fishing charter, a custom built 35ft Cobra center console “HalfCast” which is set up for both sports fishing and stand-up game fishing.

Snorkelling:

The Sun Coast is also the perfect base for anyone who loves snorkelling. Head to the coastline where you’ll find dozens of amazing snorkelling spots. For avid snorkelers, we recommend staying at Wananavu Resort, as they run daily trips to different spots all around the coast, enabling you to see something new and interesting each day.

Whitewater Rafting:

The self-proclaimed Adventure Capital of Fiji, Pacific Harbour, is a great starting point for an abundance of tours and activities. Travellers seeking the thrill of whitewater rafting should give Navua River a go. Journey through awe-inspiring parts of the river with mighty gorges and cascading waterfalls. Pacific Harbour offers accommodation for all kinds of budgets from 3.5 Star Uprising Beach Resort to 5 Star Nanuku Auberge Resort Fiji.
