Taveuni, Fiji

Taveuni

Known also as “The Garden Island,” Taveuni lives up to its name with lush rainforests, spectacular waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. Located to the northeast of Viti Levu the main Island of Fiji, it’s the third-largest island in Fiji, and is known for its breathtaking landscapes and eco-tourism opportunities. One of Taveuni’s most iconic features is the Bouma National Heritage Park, a protected area with pristine rainforests, clear rivers, and stunning waterfalls. The park is home to three incredible waterfalls – Tavoro Falls, Uru Falls, and Naiwao Falls – all easily accessible via well-maintained walking trails. The scenic hikes through the rainforest lead to crystal-clear pools where visitors can swim in the cool waters, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

For diving enthusiasts, Rainbow Reef, located off Taveuni’s coast, is one of the most celebrated dive sites in Fiji. The vibrant coral gardens and the famous Great White Wall – a vertical drop-off covered with white soft coral – make it a world-class destination for underwater exploration. This reef offers an incredible array of marine life, including manta rays, sharks, and countless fish species. Taveuni is also a fantastic spot for snorkelling, kayaking, and birdwatching, especially with species like the endemic Orange Dove and Pink-billed Parrotfinch.

Taveuni is steeped in local culture. Visitors can experience traditional Fijian ceremonies, sample delicious local food, and stay in eco-lodges that embrace sustainability. The island’s laid-back pace and natural beauty make it an ideal destination for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature and truly has something for travellers of all ages.
