New Zealand Travel Tips
When to Visit
New Zealand's seasons are the same as Australia's, though perhaps more pronounced. Their summer is quite warm while winter is noticeably colder than half of Australia.
December to February is the most popular visitor season, except for travellers seeking a winter wonderland and ski experiences who will prefer to travel June to August.
Language
New Zealand has three official languages: English, New Zealand Sign Language, and te reo Māori.
Māori is a living language woven into daily life—from place names to greetings like Kia Ora (Hello). It’s a vital part of Aotearoa’s identity and cultural revival.
Time Zone
Kia ora from the land of the long white cloud!
New Zealand cruises on UTC+12, and springs forward to UTC+13 for daylight saving, which typically translates to 2 hours ahead of Sydney year-round, or 3 hours ahead of Brisbane during their Daylight Savings Time.
A convenient time difference, New Zealand is always a step ahead, and is a place where time moves just right—fast enough for adventure, slow enough for scenic sips by the sea.
Currency
The New Zealand dollar is the national currency and is readily available from ATM's in country with most Australian bank cards, or prior to departure from currency exchange locations. While the value does vary, 1 NZ Dollar is worth around AU 90 cents at the time of writing.
Travel Insurance
The health care system in New Zealand is modern and provides excellent care, however travel insurance is still strongly recommended when travelling overseas.
Travel Insurance can assist with unforeseen events like lost luggage, unplanned cancellations to your itinerary, and medical emergencies that you could otherwise have out-of-pocket expenses for.

Electricity
Across the ditch and just as easy—New Zealand shares Australia’s Type I plugs and 230V voltage. Seamless charging while you soak up those Middle-earth vibes.
How to get there
There are daily flights from Australia to the major airports in New Zealand, such as Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.
Most major airlines fly between Australia and New Zealand offering a large range of options for travellers heading "across the ditch".
Flight times from the East Coast are roughly 3-4 hours in duration.
Entry Requirements
Australian citizens and permanent residents don't require a visa to visit New Zealand, however a valid passport is essential. It is also mandatory for visitors to complete a Travel Declaration to complete entry, however this can now be completed online 24hrs before you arrive (see NZ Traveller Declaration website for more info).
