Family-Friendly Tours in the Cook Islands

Published 8th Jul 2023

If you are planning on taking the kids with you on your South Pacific adventures, then make sure you don’t miss any of these family-friendly tours in the Cook Islands. Keeping children entertained during your Cook Islands holiday can be a challenge, but there are activities and attractions in the islands that are great for people of all ages.

Alongside showcasing some great child-friendly tours in the Cook Islands, Spacifica Travel is here to help you find accommodation that works for the whole family while offering some handy tips about travelling to this part of the world with children. By planning your holiday around the needs of your family, you can ensure that everyone gets the most out of their time in the Cook Islands.

Family-Friendly Tours in the Cook Islands

One of the best family friendly tours in the Cook Islands is to take a cruise out to Tapuaetai, also known as One Foot Island. This small island is located in the Aitutaki Atoll and is barely half a kilometre long. Despite its size, there is still plenty to enjoy here for every member of the family. One Foot Island has one of the most famous beaches in all of the Cook Islands and is great for kids to play on, and go swimming or snorkelling.

On the main island of Rarotonga, there are cruises that go around the idyllic Muri lagoon and cater for all ages. Parents and elderly travellers can enjoy relaxing on the boat as they soak in the South Pacific sun, while younger people get to play around in the lagoon and explore the incredible underwater world below. And for lunch, everyone gets to enjoy a delicious BBQ meal to make sure no one goes hungry.

Family-Friendly Accommodation in the Cook Islands

When putting together your Cook Islands holiday package, you want to make sure you stay somewhere that caters for children. Many resorts around the Cook Islands have children's programs that run a range of fun activities to keep your kids occupied throughout the day. These programs may include traditional Cook Islands crafting, snorkelling, swimming, dance lessons, hikes, and loads of other great stuff.

While there are amazing children’s programs at several Cook Islands resorts, here are some of our favourites:

Staying somewhere that provides entertainment and things to do for your children will go a long way towards making your Cook Islands holiday fun for the whole family.

What to Pack During a Cook Islands Family Holiday

Packing for an entire family during your Cook Islands travels can be challenging, as it's hard to know what you need to keep everyone happy, safe, and healthy throughout the trip. Because of its tropical climate, sun safety should be at the top of your priority list when packing for the Cook Islands. Sunscreen, rashies, sunglasses, hats, and water bottles should all go in, and don’t forget to pack the swimmers!

You will also need to pack some entertainment for your children. While there are plenty of amazing activities to enjoy on the islands, it’s only natural that they will want some quieter time either in your accommodation or on the beach. Depending on the age of your children, you will want to pack plenty of books, colouring-in and craft activities, and any favourite toys. It’s up to you whether or not you want to bring the iPad, but we believe there is enough to keep the kids engaged on the Cook Islands without them having to look at a screen.
