Our Norfolk Island Escorted Tours Have Relaunched!

Published 28th Nov 2022

The sun is shining, the planes are flying and our Escorted Tours have relaunched! To kick it all off we organised an escorted tour to beautiful Norfolk Island and with a great group of people.

Seven nights accommodation, all breakfasts and dinners, a full programme jam-packed with exciting and classic Norfolk Island tours, plus the dedicated services of our knowledgeable Tour Leader – what a great way to experience one of our Norfolk Island holidays!

Want to know what we got up to? Read on to find out.

Day 1 – Wataweih (hello) Norfolk Island!

It was an early start to our Norfolk Island holiday (6:30am!) but we were too excited for our journey to begin. The group met at the Brisbane International Airport for the flight to Norfolk Island, and got to know each other and Frederique, our Tour Leader, while waiting to board the plane. Before we knew it, we were descending into Norfolk Island. A quick private transfer to our accommodation for the next seven nights, Governor’s Lodge, before an afternoon at leisure.

Tonight we discovered one of Norfolk's best traditions, the Island Fish Fry. Complete with a feast of local dishes and entertainment from the Baunti Byuutis dancing group. We all let our hair down, enjoying great food and cutting some shapes on the dance floor – Norfolk Island style of course!

Day 2 – Norfolk Island Discovery

Breakfast first before a morning spent on the Orientation Tour, which is included in all of Spacifica Travel's Norfolk Island holidays. It was a great way to get an overview of the island by seeing the historic convict buildings of Kingston, beautiful beaches, golf course, the renowned Melanesian Chapel, and an island home built by Fletcher Quintal – descendant of ‘Bounty’ mutineers Fletcher Christian & Matthew Quintal.

After seeing the historic sights this morning, we 'witnessed' events from the convict era. No we didn't time travel, instead we attended the Trial of Fifteen Show, a testimony of Norfolk’s colourful and turbulent past.

Our day ended with a decadent two-course dinner at Bailey’s Restaurant. The local fish was a group favourite – locally sourced and freshly prepared; you could almost smell the crisp sea air.

Day 3 – Coastline Cruise

Bit of a cruisey (excuse the pun!) morning today. Our agenda had a stroll through Kingston at 11am before a seaside picnic. The main adventure today: a two and a half hour coastline cruise. After discovering the island by bus yesterday, taking to the water gave us a totally different perspective! Rugged cliffs, caves, blowholes and stunning birdlife, an incredible experience. We enjoyed dinner at Bailey’s Restaurant.

Day 4 – Off the Beaten Track

Did you know Norfolk Island has 25 rare and endemic bird species? Today we saw some on a bird watching tour, including the masked booby, sooty tern and more! The bird lovers among us were flying high.

Next we catered for the foodies on the ‘A Taste of Norfolk’ tour. Alongside learning about how passionate locals produce outstanding products we also got to taste. Honey, beef, salt, green banana fritters, we were all in a food coma by the end.

Continuing with the local food theme, tonight's meal was a Progressive Dinner, where we dined at the tables of three Norfolk Islanders in their family homes. A truly special and a must tour for any holiday on Norfolk Island! We were filled with great food, fascinating stories and love for this island community.

Day 5 – Bushwalk Breakfast & Kingston Tour

A great start today with the breakfast bushwalk. We were rewarded with scenic sights along the walk, from rainforest to clifftops, and a barbecue breakfast at the end.

This afternoon we learnt about the island's colonial and penal history on the World Heritage Norfolk History Tour. Then we lived it! The iconic Night as a Convict tour was this evening. Dressed as convicts we were in for a night of fun, feasting and frivolity.

Day 6 – Markets & High Tea

After our antics last night, it was a relaxing morning. Breakfast at The Boatshed at the hotel, before venturing into Burnt Pine where the markets were on. We got some time to explore before making our way to the Bounty Bar & Grill for a Gourmet High Tea complete with a selection of sweet and savoury food, Champagne, tea and coffee. Delicious! This casual day ended with an easy dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 – Outdoor Activities

Rested up and ready for an adventure today we boarded a 4x4 bus for a pioneering tour through the National Park. Travelling off the beaten track, we saw Norfolk’s unexplored valleys, ridges, coastlines and private properties.

We could not get enough of the island's nature activities. Next up was Christian’s Glass Bottom boat voyage within the lagoons of Emily and Slaughter Bays. The water was so clear! Beneath the surface we could see beautiful coral gardens and fish.

For our last dinner on Norfolk Island we experienced a beautiful meal at Hilli Restaurant and Café, where we reminisced on our adventures over the last seven days while enjoying more of Norfolk Island's best food.

The adventure was not over yet though, after dinner we finished off our Norfolk Island holiday with the Sound and Light Show. A dramatic use of real life sounds, theatrical lighting and costumed actors that will took us through Norfolk Island’s convict era.

Day 8 – See Yorlye Gane! (see you again)

One last breakfast at The Boatshed and our Norfolk Island holiday was over. We said goodbye to our new friends and Norfolk Island then flew home, ready to start planning our next Escorted Journey!
