Rediscover You With a South Pacific Wellness Holiday

Published 10th Feb 2022

White sand beaches, crystal clear waters, lush green palm trees and warm tropical sunshine – this is what comes to mind when you picture a South Pacific wellness holiday. It causes you to sigh, take a deep breath, and let your thoughts wander. So you don’t overwhelm yourself before heading off on a South Pacific getaway, we have done the research and leg work to offer up a few suggestions you may want to consider.

Everything Day Spas & More

The resorts of the South Pacific are well known for their day spas and treatments. To help narrow your options we have our personal recommended list of spas to share that includes unique treatments, luxurious products and award-winning staff.

Fiji

In Fiji, the first of our two suggestions is the Dusk till Dawn Overnight Spa Package at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa. This package is a complete spa and sleep experience that includes a steam bath, full body scrub, 60-minute massage and facial, plus dinner and breakfast. It is definitely a must do.

Our second recommendation is the Cleopatra Essence of Love Bathing Ritual at the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa. Take a sensual bath while enjoying a selection of fresh island fruits and a bottle of wine. You will be relaxed in no time.

Cook Islands

Enjoy a massage in the peaceful Polynesian setting of Tiare Spa, perched high above the breathtakingly turquoise waters of Aitutaki Lagoon at Pacific Resort Aitutaki. Whatever treatment you choose to indulge in, the internationally trained team will make you feel relaxed, renewed and rejuvenated.

Another Cook Island favourite is the Vichy Shower Massage Treatment at Rumours Luxury Villas & Spa Waterfall Spa. During this treatment you lie on a padded table beneath seven adjustable shower jets that caress your body. The team adjusts these jets so you can achieve a whole body massage treatment that hydrates the skin, soothes the nervous system, and increases blood circulation.

New Caledonia

Continuing with the water theme, the Aquatonic Pool at Chateau Royal Beach & Spa in New Caledonia has to be tried to be believed. This one-of-a-kind relaxation space is a heated pool with twelve hydro massage stations that offers you a unique moment of well-being. You will thank us after.

Our final shortlisted recommendation is the Deep Ocean Spa at Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa. This was the first spa in the South Pacific to offer thalassotherapy, the use of seawater in wellness treatments, harnessing marine nutrients to promote healing of the skin. Drawing on modern wellness techniques as well as ancient Polynesian healing rituals, the spa menu at this resort promises to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit.

Eco Retreats

If your idea of rediscovery is more rustic and back to nature, then a stay at an eco-retreat may be just the thing for you.

Award-winning Ikurangi Eco Retreat in the Cook Islands is the first purpose-built eco accommodation and glamping hotel created to give visitors to Rarotonga the option of an eco-friendly getaway. Set amongst organic gardens and local plantations with dramatic mountain views, you can get back to nature plus indulge in a luxurious eco escape like no other. With a firm belief in responsible tourism, the property ensures that sustainability is at the heart of everything they do.

At Matava Eco Resort in Kadavu Fiji you will find your spirit as you experience the magnificent beauty of this remote unspoilt tropical Fijian Island. Here there are no roads, no noise, and no stress. Stay in traditional thatched Fijian Bures with solar powered lighting, solar hot water and no carbon footprint. Dine on fresh fish caught locally and fruits and vegetables grown right before your very eyes. This is the perfect place to unplug and recharge.

Yoga

Yoga has long been known for its body and mind health benefits so it is little wonder that there is a growing trend to combine yoga with a tropical island getaway. You can dedicate your entire holiday to yoga poses and meditation or just join in when you feel like it.

One of our must-tries is the Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga Class in the Cook Islands. This class is suitable for beginners and experienced yogis. You start the class with an introductory paddle board lesson before heading out to a private island to enjoy a floating yoga class filled with standing and seating poses, before finishing with a truly weightless shavasana.

If your commitment is greater than just one class you can head to Kokomo Island Fiji for their Recharge Package which combines private yoga sessions (on a floating pontoon no less) with a wellness consultation and spa treatments all in ultimate luxury. For those on a more conservative budget, Waidroka Bay Resort located on Fiji’s Coral Coast offers guests two daily yoga classes run by their resident yoga teacher. Practice your downward dogs and cattails either in the yoga studio or outdoors in the resort's gardens. You will find many like-minded yogi at this resort.
