Get off the Beaten Track in Samoa

Samoa is the perfect backdrop for your adventure holiday! With stunning mountain peaks, caves, waterfall and more to discover, get off the beaten track and explore everything Samoa has to offer. Three Peaks of Upolu

Visit Lake Lanoto’o, a magnificent volcanic crater lake, which is one of only two locations in Samoa designated as a “Wetland of International Importance” under the Ramsar Convention. Time to put on those old hiking boots as this 6km return hike is sure to leave you muddy but having a lot of fun getting off the beaten track. Cool off with a swim in the lake and continue to another volcanic crater, Mount Fiamoe. Accessed by a short 1.5km hike and 150 metre climb, from up here you can see both the North & South Coasts of Upolu. End the day with a visit to historical Mount Vaea and Robert Louis Stevenson’s tomb, another active 4km hike with a 250 metre climb to the top where the famous author lies, and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of Apia Harbour and surrounds.

The pristine waters of Upolu tour

Drive along the East Coast Road to Sauniatu Waterfall. Experience the stunning natural beauty of this pristine waterfall with a quick dip before your next stop to Piula Cave Pool. Only metres from the ocean, this freshwater spring pool also sits beneath a historic church! The adventure continues with a drive through cattle grazing country through Le Mafa Pass. Take in the spectacular views along the Fugaloa Bay coastline before a snack and swim at Samoa’s most famous beach Lalomanu Beach. The big attractions keep coming with a visit to To Sua Ocean Trench. Climb down the steep descent into the stunning blue trench, and choose to take a 30 meter swim through the natural tunnel! Enjoy lunch and a stroll in the gardens with fantastic views over the volcanic coast. After lunch, head to Togitogiga Falls where you can have another swim or for those who are game – jump over the falls! On the way back to Apia, take a roadside stop at stop off at Upolu’s highest waterfall, Papapapaitai Falls.

National Park Adventure

Experience the raw natural beauty of the O Ie Pupu Pu’e National Park as you journey through tropical rainforest and Ma Trees with roots that extend out metres in all directions. View the dramatic coastal lava, dramatic waves and ocean spray as you walk along the cliffs. You may also be able to spot the birdlife on one of the nearby islands! After your walk it’s time to head down to Aganoa Black Sand Beach. Feel the fine volcanic sand between your toes and enjoy a refreshing swim and picnic lunch.

Mountain to Mangrove Tour

This tour is not for the feint-hearted so pack your best hiking boots and strap in for a full day of adventure! Enjoy a 10km trek along the bush track across Upolu’s mountain range before descending into rainforest. A well-deserved break is taken under a historical a’oa (banyan). Continue following in the footsteps of ancient Samoan travellers as you pass through highland pasture and experience local ranches and raw plantations. Enjoy a swim at a spring fed pool before lunch. After lunch, kayak through the overhanging mangroves, twisting and turning your way 1.5km to the beach on Safata Bay for another dip. Return through the mangroves to a scrumptious dinner on the verandah of the Vai Villa Lodge.
