Lagoon Luxuries: Best Beachfront Stays in the Cook Islands

Updated 23 Mar 2025

There’s something undeniably magical about a beachfront stay in the Cook Islands. The smell of the fresh sea breeze, the sound of the waves gently lapping against the shore, and easy access to some of the most mesmerising beaches in all the South Pacific. Who wouldn’t want to take that as part of their Cook Islands holiday?

At Spacifica Travel, we love helping people find the perfect Cook Islands holiday package when visiting this stunning country. If you are looking for that idyllic beachfront accommodation in the Cook Islands, then you simply cannot go wrong with any of these stellar resorts.

The Best Beachfront Stays in the Cook Islands

Before we dive into our favourite seaside stays in the Cook Islands, it’s important we outline what the term “beachfront” actually means. There are several accommodation spots in the Cook Islands that advertise beachfront properties, but these villas and rooms don’t necessarily sit directly on the beach. Many of them require a short walk down to the sands of the beach, but are still well and truly close enough to the shore to make them a worthwhile stay.

With that caveat out of the way, here are some of our favourite beachfront resorts to stay at during your Cook Islands travels.

Rarotonga Beachfront Stays:

  • Sunset Resort Rarotonga - ideal for those travelling on a budget and has facilities that cater to travellers with mobility issues.

  • Edgewater Resort & Spa - perfect for families who are looking for resort-style activities and facilities.

  • Little Polynesia Resort - a luxury adult-only resort with boutique properties.

  • Te Manava Luxury Villa’s and Spa - as its name suggests, perfect for people looking for opulent luxury villas.

  • Ocean Escape - This hidden gem caters to adults only with a spa onsite, and Rarotongas only salt water swimming pool!

Aitutaki Beachfront Stays:

Whether you are travelling on a budget, with family, your significant other, or want something that is absolutely drenched in luxury, then you’ll find something that works for your needs from these beachfront stays in the Cook Islands.

Beach Activities on the Cook Islands

The beaches of the Cook Islands are renowned around the world for their natural beauty and make the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or an exotic adventure. There is always something to keep you occupied on a Cook Islands beach. That could be something soothing such as relaxing on the sands with a good book or enjoying a picnic with loved ones while you look over the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

Or, it could be something a bit more active. The beaches of the Cook Islands are made for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, or stand-up paddle boarding. If you are a keen angler, then these islands are known globally for their iconic fishing spots.

Whatever beach activities you enjoy doing, you’re bound to love it even more when done on a beach in the Cook Islands.

Best Time of the Year to Visit Cook Islands’ Beaches

There is no bad time of the year to stay at a beachfront accommodation in the Cook Islands. If you are looking to avoid bad weather, then we recommend you visit during the drier months between May and October. Just because these months are cooler, doesn’t mean that it's unsuitable for beach activities as the temperatures still typically sit in the twenties.

However, if you wish to avoid the main tourism season and get more of the beach to yourself, then you may want to visit during the warmer, wetter, summer months. But, as we said, the climate of the Cook Islands is generally conducive to beach life all year round.
