Paddock to Plate on Norfolk Island:

Norfolk Islanders are Locavores; they survive by eating what can be locally farmed, which is why you will get a true paddock-to-plate experience when visiting the island. With all fruit and vegetables grown on the island plus fresh fish caught in the pristine waters and local cattle grazing the island there is an abundance of local produce to try. Furthermore, there are also boutique products produced such as coffee, honey and cheese, so there is something every foodie will enjoy during a holiday on Norfolk Island.

Joining a tour is one of the easiest ways to experience the local produce. Why not add one of these to your Norfolk Island holiday package?

Island Fish Feast

You will have an eagle-eyed view of the tiny crescent-shaped beach and the magnificent spread of ocean stretching to the far horizon. The beautifully set tables will delight you – it’s the most glamorous picnic you will ever attend! Scrumptiously fresh, local fish is prepared the traditional way and accompanied by a range of seasonal island dishes including those passed down from Polynesian foremothers. The feast kicks off with entertainment, by a local singer and Tahitian-style dancers. The venue is subject to change if the weather becomes inclement.

A Taste of Norfolk

Taste of Norfolk will take you to a beekeeper's home where you will view flow hives, learn about the fascinating local honeybees, and view their incredible flight path to their hives. The next stop will be the local butchers where you can find out all the answers about the local meat industry and see firsthand the art of sausage making. Your last visit will be a cooking demonstration and you will see a traditional yorlor stone which came from Pitcairn Island on the Morayshire in 1856. You can have a yorlor on the stone to create green banana fritters flavoured with local honey.

Progressive Dinner at local island homes

For an authentic experience that gives a first hand insight into local life on island head to a Progressive Dinner. A 3-course dinner, each served at a different Norfolk Island family home, carefully chosen to showcase not only the island's rich food and produce, but also the culture and history of the locals. Home-cooked food and home-grown experiences, this will be an evening you won't forget!

High Tea Lunch with liqueurs

Visit the multi-award-winning family property of Forrester Court positioned on the cliff's edge overlooking Cascade Bay. Where you will take a High Tea lunch with local Liqueurs on the magnificent lawns

Other Great Options For Enjoying Local Produce

Farmers Markets

The farmer's markets are held every Saturday morning from 7.00 am - 9.30 am in the Bicentennial complex in Taylors. You will be able to pick up local yoghurt, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Roadside Honesty Boxes

Like a lot of small communities roadside honesty boxes are not uncommon on the back roads of Norfolk Island. The Fletchers might have the Avocadoes, the Buffets will have guava growing on their lands, so instead of letting them go to waste they will put them in the honesty boxes for everyone to enjoy.

Fishing Charter

Do you love seafood? Well, why not book a fishing charter that will give you the opportunity to catch a variety of reef and surface fish? Once back, head out around the island and find one of the many free BBQ areas and have a Cliffside dinner.

Speciality Stores

Try Sweeties Chocolate Factory for a sweet treat, Two Chimneys for a spot of wine or Norfolk Liqueurs for local produce.

General Stores

The major supermarket on the island is Foodlands located right in town in the Norfolk Mall. Another option is P&R Groceries.
