Solo Travel in the South Pacific

Published 13th Oct 2023

Are you a solo traveller wanting to see the world but not sure if solo travel is for you? Read on to put your fears at rest and discover a new you!!

Travelling solo may seem daunting or expensive at first but it can be a rewarding and enriching experience. As a solo traveller myself, I find the South Pacific a safe place to travel as English is spoken in all destinations, the locals are some of the friendliest people on earth and you can always find a fellow Aussie at the bar or coffee shop.

Something for Everyone

Travelling by myself has opened me up to many new experiences that I would not have had if I had been travelling with a friend, partner or family member. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone as I navigate unfamiliar environments and experiences by myself, including swimming with

Sharks & Rays in Bora Bora and Jetboating in Fiji.  I can do what I want, when I want, no matter the cost or time of day whether that be lazing around in my own space at the hotel, heading out to explore, joining a tour or exploring the town with new friends made whilst sitting by the pool.

Whilst it may seem strange to sit in a restaurant by yourself or go on a tour by yourself in a foreign country, it can be a great way to meet new people as you’re more likely to strike up conversations with fellow travellers and locals, potentially leading to meaningful friendships.  I still keep in contact with many people that I have met over the years, with catchups for dinner and have even travelled with some of them again on holidays.

Travelling alone through the South Pacific does not mean you have to miss out on all the fun or spend more on single supplements.  You can join a huge range of day tours where you will spend the day with like-minded people – from Hiking on Lord Howe Island to horseriding in Fiji, exploring the local culture and Volcano’s in Vanuatu or join a 3 night cruise in Fiji during Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb Mar to explore the outer islands at a discounted solo price.

You will find you become more spontaneous, self-reliant and resourceful when travelling by yourself and may discover things about yourself that you never knew. You may find a sense of accomplishment travelling as you navigate your way through these destinations on your own and remember that you are never lost, just exploring things that you never knew existed.  And you never know you might even find a new hobby or interest that you can continue when you return home, forever reminding you of a holiday well spent.

Solo travel can offer a sense of tranquillity and solitude, allowing you to disconnect from the demands of everyday life and find moments of peace and relaxation without having the kids asking what’s for dinner or a partner saying what are we doing now.

Safety First

While solo travel offers numerous benefits, it's essential to prioritize safety and plan accordingly, especially if you're travelling to unfamiliar or remote destinations. Research your destination, share your itinerary with someone you trust, and stay aware of your surroundings to ensure a positive and enjoyable solo travel experience.

I’m ready to book my next solo trip but how do I do this?
