Your guide to Fiji travel in 2022

Published 17th Jun 2022

Late last year, Fiji’s travel borders opened to the world. And if you are anything like us here at Spacifica Travel, you cannot wait to get back to this friendly destination's warm embrace.

We have missed everything that Fiji travel has to offer. Its amazing beaches, kind and beautiful culture, and unforgettable experiences have long made it one of Australia’s favourite tourist destinations. But of course, circumstances in the last few years have made travelling to Fiji more difficult than it once was. But not to worry!

We have compiled a guide of everything you need to know about travelling to Fiji in 2022. We promise we will have you sipping cocktails by the beach in no time at all.

Covid-19 Restrictions

As a popular tourist destination, Fiji is at a high risk for exposure to Covid-19. SmartTraveller has officially advised visitors to exercise a high degree of caution - which is not to say that you shouldn't go. For the most upto date information at the time you are travelling we suggest you check the tourism website.

These restrictions are there to ensure the safety of not only the tourists, but also the residents and more vulnerable travellers.

Travel insurance in 2022

In 2022, travel insurance that covers Covid-19 is a must have for any travellers looking to visit Fiji. Gone are the days when getting a cold on your trip means you must spend a day in bed before resuming activities.

In Fiji, if you test positive for Covid-19 during your stay, you will be required to stay in your hotel room for 7 days. This means you will not be able to leave your accommodation and will not be able to go home if these 7 days encompass your return date. This is an unfortunate situation that could get very expensive, very quickly.

Having Covid-19 travel insurance means that isolation and medical expenses will be covered. This is important as you will be at risk of contracting the virus during your stay. Think of travel insurance less like a safety net and more like a lifesaver in regard to Covid-19.

Travel and Transport

There are many options for getting around Fiji. Car hire is generally discouraged as the roads cand be difficult for unseasoned drivers. However, if you do choose this option, cars are available for hire in Viti Levu.

Taxis and airport shuttles are available to get you from your flight to your accommodation. It is recommended that you call ahead to your resort to organise this ahead of your arrival. Booking through your resort ensures you don't end up paying more than you should through costly surge prices.

Public buses and express coach services are also available for travel around the island. Public buses are sometimes unreliable - often travelling on island time - but will get you where you need to go. If you want to organise a group, and make sure you get to your destination on time, express coaches can be organised through your resort.

For a fun final option, water taxis are also an extremely easy way to get between the islands. Island hopping has never been easier!

Accommodation

Fiji is a place for everyone, and that sentiment is expressed in their accommodation options. Our team at Spacifica Travel is dedicated to compiling quality accommodation packages that reflect how you’d like to experience Fiji. No matter what your trip looks like - budget or luxury, short or long, family or honeymoon – we have something for you.

There is a large variety of accommodation in places like Viti Levu compared to the smaller islands. If you are on a budget, the main island is the best place to look. But if you are able to invest a little more, it is worth considering the smaller islands for more privacy.

Food and Dining

Our team at Spacifica Travel understands that food can make or break a trip. All of our recommended resorts and accommodations have great dining options - which is only a small drop of what food is available.

Our first highly recommended restaurant is Wicked Walu Seafood Restaurant, which can be found on its very own private island. This restaurant serves its customers only the best fish and seafood that Fiji has to offer.

Tokoriki Oishii Teppanyaki Restaurant is also hugely popular, opting for an authentic Japanese dining experience. This restaurant is located in a tropical garden and is a great option for those looking to add some culture to their dining experience.

Why Travel To Fiji in 2022

Fiji is one of Australia's favourite tourist destinations for a reason. Fiji travel is now as accessible and easy as ever, with a few adjustments that travellers need to be aware of.

The island is sure to give you a holiday that feels like a holiday; far away from the hustle and bustle of day to day mainland life. The last two years have been difficult for a place like Fiji, who so strongly depend on their tourism economy. Travelling to Fiji is strongly encouraged by locals who want to get back to normal as soon as possible. You will surely be greeted with warm welcomes and even warmer smiles upon your arrival.
